Achieving Complexity and Rigor:
Curriculum and Instruction
  • Perform a "close" reading of selected standards and the mathematical practices using the Frayer model
  • Examine the elements of text complexity:
    • Qualitative
    • Quantitative (Lexile levels)
    • The reader
  • Analyze the text complexity of various texts
  • Experience a "close reading" of the Gettysburg Address
  • Identify complex text strategies for Special Education and ESL students
  • Create a class ready Common Core Lesson using a self-selected informational text and based on an operational exemplar in "close" reading
