What you’ll experience:
Developing Standards Literacy
As teachers become true practitioners of the Common Core, you need to know the precise expectations of the standards
– what students will be required to know and be able to do, as well as which skills to advance in your students, so
they can best hit the target.
- Close reading of the common core state standards
- Looking into deconstruction: specific plans on how to begin addressing the standards
- Identify specific expectations of the standards you are responsible for
- Know and identify the learning targets in each standard
- What types of assessments are most appropriate to assess the standards
- Process for looking at additional standards
Assessment and Grading with the Common Core State Standards
After Day 1, participants should have a clear understanding of what the standards are expecting our students
to know and be able to do. Day 2 will take Common Core Standards implementation one step further to discuss
Assessment and Grading.
Decisions about curriculum, instruction, and assessment must be made with the end in mind – at the very least, getting our students
to a proficient level on all standards and creating a society of college- and career-ready adults. Once you have a solid awareness
of the Common Core, you will need to implement assessment and provide the necessary analytical tools, enabling your district or
school to refresh curriculum, measure, and finally adjust to ensure your curriculum is derived from the Common Core. Grading and
Assessment decisions should not be made based on convenience. Research proves, as we already know, if we monitor what is taught
and assessed, achievement will increase by up to 31%. Do you have the tools necessary to measure that increase?
